History

Where and When Did Son's Light Ministries Begin?

Boone residents Dawn and David Ward wanted a safe place where their 3 daughters and other young people in the High Country could have the opportunity to grow spirtually and at the same time have fun and fellowship in a Christ-centered organization. After many prayers, discussions, and planning meetings the Son's Light Coffee House opened on Saturday May 11, 2002 at the Blowing Rock Ruritan Club Building and the Ward's dream became a reality. The " Coffee House" has met bi-monthly since then and has served hundreds of students of all ages from a variety of backgrounds. As involvement with the "Coffee House" ministry has increased God's Grace has provided the means for it to become the present day Son's Light Ministries.

Where Are We Now?

Son's Light MInistries has come a long way since that first "Coffee House" in May of 2002. The 1st Annual High Country Youth Festival was held on Sunday, May 18, 2003 at Watauga High School and featured music, testimonies, and drama. On Sunday May 16, 2004, the Second Annual High Country Youth Festival moved across town to the Holmes Center on the campus of Appalachian State University and featured nationally known speakers and musicians Wil Graham, Clayton King, 7-Miles, and Shawn Groves. In that same year, Son's Light Ministries also hosted YouthFest 04 on Sunday September 5th, at the Holmes Center, with 7-Miles and Chris Rice. High Country Youth Festival 05 included Ginny Owens & Shawn Groves and Youth Evangelist Craig Tackett . SLM was very blessed to feature Newsong in the 06 version of High Country Youth Festival.

SLM has also hosted the "Stars In His Crown" Christian Talent Search in conjunction with HCYF 05 and 06. The winners of these events have been given the opportunity to perform at the next year's HCYF.

"The Truth About Jesus Conference" in May of 05 was a true blessing for SLM as well. The intensive 1-day event that focused on the absolute truths concerning Jesus' birth, life , and resurrection was impactful. The event included large and small group discussions, praise and worship, ministry time with speakers and musicians, and a concert by the Christian Band 7- Miles.

Other Son's Light Ministries Programs include a Prayer and Witness Team, Praise Band, Record Label, Leadership Training Program, ASU Club Ministry, and various special events. Son's Light Ministries hopes to soon add an after-school program to serve Middle and High School students in the High Country.

Where Are We Going?

Only God knows what the future holds for Son's Light Ministries. The Ministry has been blessed in so many ways, and we are always prayerfully asking for the Lord's will to be done through our efforts. We are convicted by the Holy Spirit and seek only to advance His Kingdom in all of our endeavors.
